RADAR '25: WR DeShaun Lanier impresses at camp, has one-on-one meeting with Tucker
Class of 2025 wide receiver DeShaun Lanier has had a busy few months in preparation for a pivotal junior season. The 6-foot, 165-pound recruit from Chippewa Valley High School recently received offers from Notre Dame, West Virginia and Louisville.
Lanier also attended Michigan State’s prospect camp on Wednesday. Following the camp, Lanier met Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker for the first time.
“Coach Tucker and I just got to know each other since we hadn’t met in person yet,” Lainer said. “We talked about football and he told me some things he likes about my game. It meant a lot to me and showed me he was for real about his interest in me that he came and personally met me.”
Prior to the meeting, Lanier trained with a group of fellow wide receivers at the camp, led by Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins.
“I did pretty well at the camp I think,” Lanier said. “Training with Coach Hawk was cool because he’s a good coach and he’s going to help everyone and put them in positions to succeed.”

Lainer views Hawkins as a coach he could see himself playing for in college.
“He’s a straight up coach and I like that about him,” Lanier said. “There’s no cutting corners with him around, he’s going to get all that he can out of you and then some. Our relationship has been pretty good so far because of that.”
Lanier attended Michigan’s prospect camp last week and was named the wide receiver MVP. He will be at Kent State for the Ohio mega camp over the weekend before going to South Carolina for another camp. He also worked out in front of 50 colleges during his high school’s combine earlier this year.
Outside his list of offers, several schools are in communication with Lanier and could offer soon.
“I hear from Appalachian State, Indiana, Northwestern, Wisconsin and obviously Michigan State quite a bit,” Lanier said.
Lanier is a three-star prospect with a grade of 84.28 according to the On3 Consensus Rankings. He’s ranked the No. 453 prospect in the class of 2025, the No. 64 wide receiver and the No. 11 prospect in the state of Michigan.
