East Lansing, Mich. Michigan State will take the field against Purdue on Friday without cornerback Charles Brantley, cornerback Jeremiah Hughes, cornerback Caleb Coley, cornerback Chance Rucker, safety Armorion Smith, safety Dillon Tatum, safety Malik Spencer, linebacker Wayne Matthews and wide receiver Alante Brown, per the team’s weekly availability report.

Michigan State listed all nine players as “out.” Brantley will officially miss the remainder of the season. The Spartans listed zero players as “questionable.”

Excluding Angelo Grose and Nikai Martinez, Michigan State will be without its entire starting secondary from the first game of the season. With Coley and Hughes out, Ade Willie projects to start opposite Ed Woods at cornerback. True freshman Jaylen Thompson, who earned his first start last week against Illinois, projects to start opposite Martinez at safety.

North Carolina transfer Lejond Cavazos and true freshmen Andrew Brinson and Keshawn Williams are the remaining scholarship options at cornerback. Redshirt freshman Phillipp Davis is the remaining scholarship option at safety.
