Michigan State signs 2024 three-star DB Andrew Brinson
2024 Tampa (Fla.) Gaither High School three-star cornerback Andrew Brinson signed with Michigan State on Wednesday. The 6-foot, 185-pound Brinson committed to Michigan State on Dec. 17, following his official visit to East Lansing the weekend of Dec. 15.
The former Oregon State commit followed secondary coach Blue Adams from Corvallis to East Lansing. Brinson chose the Spartans over offers from Illinois, Kansas, Louisville, Oregon State, Utah and Wisconsin, among others.
Brinson is the No. 986 prospect, No. 96 cornerback and No. 137 player from Florida, per the On3 Industry Rankings. On3 ranks Brinson as the No. 187 cornerback and the No. 196 player from Florida in his class.
Brinson was the first player to decommit from Oregon State following Smith’s move to Michigan State. He also earned the first offer from the Spartans’ new staff. Brinson is a good cover corner and solid compliment to Michigan State’s other three 2024 defensive back commits.
Adams was high on Brinson from the start. That relationship initially brought Brinson from Florida to Oregon. Now it brings him to Michigan.

Scouting summary
Brinson has good quickness. He uses his speed and tenacious mindset to keep up with fast receivers. He rarely got beat over the top in high school. Brinson can play off the ball and use his speed to close in quickly and disrupt passing plays. He doesn’t have the versatility to move around in the secondary like Michigan State’s other three defensive back commits, and he has a harder time with bigger receivers who use their body to box out defenders for jump balls.
Reminds us of
Like Brinson, Penn State cornerback Johnny Dixon is from Tampa, Fla. Brinson and Dixon are similar in that they both have good instincts at the cornerback position. They both make plays thanks to their speed, which allows them to close gaps with ease. Dixon was the No. 423 prospect, No. 43 cornerback and No. 49 player from Florida, per the 2019 On3 Industry Rankings. He spent some time at South Carolina before transferring to Penn State. Dixon has totaled 96 tackles, 18 pass deflections, 7.5 sacks and four interceptions in five college seasons.
Personal life
Brinson competed in track and field in high school. He was a Florida state qualifier in the 200 meter dash. He also played wide receiver until his senior season, when he decided to focus on cornerback.
