Michigan State signs three-star Texas RB Brandon Tullis
2024 Frisco (Texas) Memorial High School three-star running back Brandon Tullis signed with Michigan State on Wednesday. Tullis committed to the Spartans on Dec. 14, following an official visit to East Lansing the weekend of Dec. 8.
The 6-foot, 190-pound running back was previously committed to Oregon State. He decommitted after news broke that head coach Jonathan Smith took the Michigan State job. Smith hired former Beaver running back coach Keith Bhonapha, who quickly offered Tullis a spot with the Spartans.
Tullis chose Michgian State over offers from Kansas, California and Boston College, among others. He is the No. 1656 prospect, per the 2024 On3 Industry Rankings. Tullis is also the No. 129 running back and the No. 232 player from Texas in his class.
The Michigan State signee had 974 all-purpose yards this fall as a senior. He logged 11 touchdowns in 10 games.
Scouting report
Tullis is a power back who demonstrated strong vision on his senior tape. He doesn’t have the high-end speed, but he runs hard and has shown an ability to break tackles. He rarely goes down upon first contact. Tullis played against the top competition from the Dallas area. He is strong in short yardage and is able to hit the hole with power.

Reminds us of
Tullis has the running style of a power back, but he is also shifty enough to make defenders miss in the open field. That type of skill is comparable to current Michigan State running back Jaren Mangham. Mangham, a Detroit native, began his career with Colorado before transferring to South Florida. He eventually found his way back home to Michigan State ahead of the 2023 season. Mangham battled injuries this fall but proved to be a strong short yardage option when healthy.
Personal life
Tullis will study business at Michigan State. His mother – who joined him on his official visit to East Lansing – gave the Michigan State and its business school the stamp of approval.
“She really loves the business college and she really trusts coach Smith and the staff,” Tullis said.
“The campus was great,” Tullis continued. “I really like the business college. That is what I am going to be studying in the future. The facilities are great as well, really state of the art and everything is new. (Academics) are really important to me. It is really nice that the business college is one of the best in the country at Michigan State.”
