Michigan State signs Kahuku (Hawaii) EDGE Leonard Ah You
Michigan State earned a surprise commitment from Kahuku (Hawaii) EDGE Leonard Ah You on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period. The former three-star recruit signed as a member of the Spartans’ 2025 class after spending the previous two years on a mission trip.
Originally a member of the 2023 recruiting class, Ah You (6-4, 210) signed to play under current Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith at Oregon State two years ago.
“He can play the game, now, a linebacker that can run,” Smith said two years ago when Ah You signed with Oregon State. “He is going to be good size, especially after a couple of years.”
Smith and Michigan State defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa are both quite familiar with Ah You, as he chose the Beavers over offers from Arizona State, Arizona, BYU and Utah out of high school. Smith, Suiaunoa and Spartan general manager Cole Moore, among others, have spent the past few months working to add Ah You behind the scenes.
Ah You was the No. 1,132 prospect, No. 108 linebacker and No. 3 player from Hawaii in the 2023 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

Scouting summary
Listed at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds by Michigan State, Ah You appears to have grown since his senior year of high school. Ah You showed on his senior film that he can get in the backfield and disrupt plays in a hurry. Michigan State will likely have Ah You start his Spartan career under Chad Wilt at the rush end position.
Ah You represents the Spartans’ first 2025 rush end commitment.
Ah You helped lead Kahuku High School to a 12-2 record in 2022. Kahuku won the state title and finished as the No. 1 team in Hawaii that season. Ah You logged 10.5 tackles for loss, six sacks and one interception as a senior.
