Michigan State signs 2025 three-star Lufkin (Texas) S Evan Young
Michigan State signed 2025 three-star Lufkin (Texas) safety Evan Young on Wednesday.
Young (6-1, 180) received an offer from Spartan secondary coach Blue Adams on Oct. 10. Michigan State director of player personnel Austin D’Armond initiated contact with Young. Young took an official visit to East Lansing for the Spartans’ season-ending loss to Rutgers on Nov. 30. He committed to Michigan State two days later in Dec. 2.
Young’s commitment came just hours after the Spartans lost cornerbacks coach Demetrice Martin to UCLA. As a result, 2025 three-star Corona (Calif.) Centennial cornerback LaRue Zamorano decommitted from Michigan State the same day. Martin’s departure did not change Young’s commitment with the Spartans, however.
Young held additional offers from Prairie View A&M, Texas Southern, Louisiana and North Texas, among others. He is the No. 1,656 prospect, No. 142 cornerback and No. 244 player from Texas in the 2025 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

With his commitment, Young joined a 2025 Michigan State defensive back class that includes three-star Virginia cornerback Terrance Edwards, three-star Florida cornerback George Mullins and three-star Maryland cornerback Aydan West. Mullins also signed with the Spartans on Wednesday, and Edwards intends to as well. It remains to be seen where West signs on Wednesday.
Scouting summary
Young is a rangy defensive back with good athleticism and a nice catch radius. He reacts well when the ball’s in the air and is a sound tackler.
