Michigan State tight end Evan Morris to enter transfer portal
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State tight end Evan Morris will enter the transfer portal, he announced via social media Friday night. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Morris appeared in every game for the Spartans this fall. He totaled four receptions for eight yards and emerged as a solid blocking option at tight end for Michigan State, despite beginning his career as a kickoff specialist.
“I want to begin by saying thank you to my family and the coaching staffs that I have been a part of here at Michigan State,” Morris said in a statement released to Twitter. “Thank you for giving me the chance that others wouldn’t.
“There have been many ups and downs during my time here at Michigan State, but I wouldn’t change a single thing. I completed my lifelong dream of playing for the green and white.”
Morris committed to Michigan State in 2019 as a preferred walk-on punter, but transitioned to kickoff specialist upon his enrollment. He had 11 kickoffs in two games as a true freshman in 2019.
Morris began his move to tight end prior to the 2020 season, but he saw the field in just four games, primarily on special teams. He kicked off in the 2021 season finale against Penn State, which marked his only appearance of that season.

Morris’ role increased in 2022, as he played 98 snaps in 11 games. Only eight of those snaps came at tight end, however.
A former three-star recruit out of Ovid-Elsie (Mich.) High School, Morris was the No. 11 punter and No. 58 player from Michigan in the 2019 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. Kohl’s Kicking also named Morris the best American roll-out punter in the class.
Morris played punter, kicker, tight end and defensive end for Ovid-Elsie. He is a unique kind of Michigan State legacy, as his parents met in the Spartan marching band during their time in East Lansing.
Morris will become the 16th Michigan State player in the portal. He will join quarterback Katin Houser, cornerback Charles Brantley, guard Kevin Wigenton, tackle Ethan Boyd, quarterback Sam Leavitt, wide receiver Christian Fitzpatrick, quarterback Noah Kim, receiver Tyrell Henry, guard Geno VanDeMark, receiver Jaron Glover, defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, punter Michael O’Shaughnessy, running back Jordon Simmons, defensive back Justin White and tackle Brandon Baldwin.
