Michigan State how to watch

East Lansing, Mich. Michigan State will look to win three games in a row for the first time this season when it takes on Stony Brook Thursday evening at the Breslin Center.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo enjoyed Monday’s win over Oakland for many reasons, but he especially appreciated how Michigan State handled its one-day prep for the Golden Grizzlies’ funky zone defense.

Now, the challenge for Michigan State is to remain focused for Thursday’s game, its last before holiday break. Izzo isn’t taking the Seawolves lightly, even though they’re 0-2 this season against high-major opponents (St. John’s and Nebraska).

Stony Brook has won its last four games after starting the season 2-5. The Seawolves went 11-22 (6-12) last season under head coach Geno Ford. Ford took over for Jeff Boals, who spent three years at Stony Brook before accepting the head coaching job at Ohio.

Boals succeeded current Rutgers head coach Steve Pikiell at Stony Brook. Pikiell spent 11 seaons with the Seawolves and led the program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016. Stony Brook has yet to return to the NCAA Tournament.
