EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State may have played its best hockey of the season in the second period of Friday night’s game against the University of Michigan. But the Wolverines survived the onslaught, capitalized on a special teams opportunity, manufactured a late goal, and snuck out of Munn Ice Arena with a 2-1 upset victory over the No. 2-ranked Spartans.  The Spartans were the better team in 5-on-5 action. But Michigan benefitted from Michigan State’s season-high count of 10 penalties. Three of Michigan State’s penalties resulted in 4-on-4 situations, but messed with the line combinations and flow of the game just enough to prevent the Spartans from taking control. Meanwhile, Michigan goalie Cameron Korpi came up big throughout the second period and helped backstop the No. 13-ranked Wolverines to a big win, sparking a joyous celebration before 6,555 at Munn. INSIDE: Further analysis on how it went down, and comments from Michigan State coach Adam Nightingale.
