Michigan State added another transfer portal commitment on Jan. 6, this time landing former Idaho tight end Mason Mini. The tight end announced his decision via social media.

Mini (6-5, 240) fits the mold of a younger tight end, with multiple years of eligibility remaining (three) that tight ends coach Brian Wozniak was searching for in the transfer portal. He took other visits to New Mexico, Boston College and Wake Forest for official visits upon entering the portal. Mini also picked up offers from Washington State, UNLV, and more.

The tight end played in 15 games during his two seasons with the Vandals. He tallied five receptions for 61 yards in 2024.

Graduating from Pacifica (CA) Terra Nova High School, Mini played quarterback and safety in high school. He was a member of the 2023 high school recruiting class.

Michigan State will return veteran tight end Jack Velling in 2025 for his senior season. Experienced tight ends Michal Masunas and Brennan Parachek will each enter their junior seasons in 2025 as well, as the Spartans also return freshman Wyatt Hook. Michigan State and Wozniak also signed in-state tight end Jayden Savoury in the class of 2025.

Mini represents Michigan State’s 15th transfer portal commitment of the cycle. The tight end joins three wide receiver commitments from Chrishon McCoy (Kent State), Omari Kelly (Middle Tennessee State), and Evan Boyd (Central Michigan).

On the offensive side of the ball, the Spartans also hold commitments from former Sacramento State running back Elijah Tau-Tolliver and offensive linemen Caleb Carter (Western Carolina), Luka Vincic (Oregon State) and Matt Gulbin (Wake Forest).

Michigan State also holds five defensive additions: defensive end Anelu Lafaele (Wisconsin), cornerback Joshua Eaton (Texas State), cornerback NiJhay Burt (Eastern Illinois), cornerback Malcolm Bell (UConn, EDGE rusher David Santiago (Air Force) and defensive tackle Grady Kelly (Florida State).
