Michigan State received yet another commitment to their 2024 class on Dec. 19, this time adding Kelso (Wash.) High School three-star offensive tackle Payton Stewart. Stewart announced his commitment via social media, after spending the weekend in East Lansing on an official visit.
The former Oregon State commitment, de-committed from the Beavers shortly after it was announced that Michigan State would hire head coach Jonathan Smith. Stewart’s primary recruiter, offensive line coach Jim Michalzcik also made the move to East Lansing, quickly offering Stewart a scholarship with Michigan State.
Once Stewart received the Spartan offer, he quickly scheduled his first trip to Michigan State. He arrived in East Lansing on Saturday (Dec. 16), as he plays his senior season of basketball for Kelso High School and had a game on Friday evening. Stewart logged 19 points in the season opener for Kelso.
At 6-foot-7, 280-pounds, Stewart projects as an offensive tackle at the college level. He holds other offers from Washington State, Duke, Northwestern, California, SMU, and others. The New Michigan State commitment was previously committed to Northwestern, de-committing from the Wildcats after the firing of Pat Fitzgerald.
