Three-star OT Rustin Young commits to Michigan State
Michigan State football lands three-star offensive tackle Rustin Young, announcing his commitment via social media on Dec. 19. Young—who backed off his pledge to Oregon State on Dec. 6—officially visited East Lansing over the weekend.
“Michigan State is an awesome program with a strong Hawaiian pipeline that I only recently found out about,” Young told SpartanMag.com prior to his official visit. “The program is cool and it has a lot of support from their community.”
Recently hired offensive line coach Jim Michalczik and defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa joined forces to recruit the Honolulu native. Suiaunoa—of Samoan heritage—has deep ties to the Hawaiian state, including a brief stint as Hawai’i’s defensive line coach from 2016-2017.

In addition to Michigan State and Oregon State, the 6-foot-5, 255-pound lineman held offers from Auburn, Utah, Cal, Arizona, Arizona State, Hawai’i and more.
The three-star lineman is the No. 715 overall recruit in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He is also the No. 45 ranked offensive tackle and the No. 3 prospect in Hawai’i.
Young joins Cincinnati, Ohio, twin offensive linemen Mercer Luniewski and Charlton Luniewski in the Spartans’ 2024 offensive line class. Michigan State also received a pair of offensive line commits, who were also previously committed to Oregon State in interior offensive lineman Rakeem Johnson, and offensive tackle Payton Stewart, both also announcing their commitments on Dec. 19.
