Tyson Walker announces return to Michigan State for 2023-24 season
East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State guard Tyson Walker announced his return to the Spartan program for the 2023-24 season Monday afternoon. He is using the extra year of eligibility granted to all players who played through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Walker made the announcement on social media, with a caption that simply stated “ONE MORE 💚🤍.” The Westbury, N.Y., native is returning for his fifth and final collegiate season, and his third at Michigan State.
The 2022-23 season was the most productive of Walker’s career. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound guard averaged 14.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game on 45.9 percent shooting (41.5 percent from three).
Walker emerged as the Spartans’ go-to scorer last season, playing primarily off-ball opposite point guard A.J. Hoggard. He scored a season-high 31 points against Iowa on Feb. 25 and led the Spartans with 23 points in their upset win over Marquette in the NCAA Tournament on March 19.
Walker began his career at Northeastern University, where he played two seasons. He was named to the Colonial Athletic Association First Team as a sophomore, also winning the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award that season.
