ATLANTA – Michigan State had a magical season, winning the Big Ten regular season championship, winning 30 games, and making a run to the Elite in the NCAA Tournament. But the Spartans saw their season end against the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament on a night when they were visited by an old nemesis, cold perimeter shooting.

After the game, SpartanMag staffers Jim Comparoni and Paul Konyndyk checked in from State Farm Arena with the latest V-Cast.

V-Cast Topics

Bigger than basketball: Michigan State accomplished a lot of things this season on the basketball court, but this Spartan basketball team accomplished more than simply winning a Big Ten championship and making a run in the NCAA Tournament to the Elite Eight. This Spartan basketball team was bigger than the game that they played. The players on this team are likeable and they did a lot to reinvigorate the Michigan State fanbase, as well as touch others that may not have been Spartan fans prior this season because of their selflessness and commitment to their teammates. Returning players like Jaxon Kohler and Carson Cooper are determined to do their part to make sure that the strong culture that powered Michigan State to unexpected success this season will remain strong moving forward.

Jase Richardson: Michigan State freshman Jase Richardson would almost assuredly be a high first round pick if he were to forego his remaining eligibility and enter the NBA Draft. Richardson, who was named to the All-Tournament team in the South Region, acknowledged after Sunday’s loss to Auburn that he has a difficult decision ahead of him and that he will discuss his options with his family moving forward. Richardson does not appear to have given a great deal of thought on his future up until this point. If Richardson and the other players on this roster with remaining eligibility were to return, Michigan State would be loaded with talent and possess the experience to have a potentially special season next year.

Never hit their ceiling: For all of the great things that this Michigan State team did this season, winning a Big Ten Championship, making a run to the Elite Eight, winning 30 games, and helping their Hall of Fame coach tie the career record for most Big Ten championships and Big Ten victories, the Spartans never quite managed to play a game where put everything together. In this game, Michigan State guards struggled to make shots, which has been a problem earlier in the season.
