BREAKING: 2023 four-star LB Raylen Wilson commits to Michigan
Michigan has landed a commitment from 2023 Tallahassee (FL.) Lincoln four-star linebacker Raylen Wilson on Wednesday afternoon.
Wilson, who ranks as the No. 84 player in the On3 Consensus and the No. 69 player per On3, is Michigan’s fourth commitment in the 2023 class, joining Benedictine four-star defensive lineman Joel Starlings, West Bloomfield wide receiver Semaj Morgan and Huron kicker Adam Samaha.
Wilson committed to Michigan over Georgia in a commitment ceremony on Wednesday at Lincoln High School.
Wilson’s head coach Jimmie Tyson opened up on what Wilson brings to Michigan and how Michigan was able to land the talented playmaker out of Tallahassee.
“He’s a dynamic player,” Tyson said. “He’s a kid that you could plug anywhere. He’s a weapon on offense, defense, special teams. Anywhere you put him, he’s going to make an impact. And it’s just been great having him in our program.”
Tyson also commended Wilson’s leadership.
“As a leader, he was on our leadership committee, the only underclassmen that was on it,” Tyson said. “And he probably was the leader on the leadership committee as an underclassmen. He’s just an alpha, he’s a dawg, a guy that’s going to step up not just with actions but with words and leadership.”
Michigan piqued Wilson’s interest early due to the efforts of defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald and linebackers coach George Helow.
“They’ve done a really good job,” he said. “Their defense coordinator [Mike Macdonald] and linebackers coach [George Helow] have done a really good job communicating with him, talking to him, showing him the plan, showing where he will fit what the they would do with him. That really kind of piqued his interest.”

Wilson has made a calculated approach with his recruitment, developing a list of questions that he measures every school on to find the best fit for him.
“Sometimes kids make decisions on the wrong things,” Tyson said. “You know, ‘What are the uniforms?’ ‘How’s the facilities?’ different stuff like that. And he’s actually done a good job looking at the coaching staff, their experience their schemes. What’s the plan for him in those games? How can he develop as a player through their programs? And he’s went and visited, asked those questions, and I think he’s narrowed it down…just because he’s done it the right way. He has a list of questions that he kind of measures everybody up to.”
Wilson had been interested in leaving the state of Florida, and Tyson believes Wilson’s visit to Michigan gave him an idea of the opportunities available up north.
“He’s always kind of been a kid that wants to get away kind of see how it is,” Tyson said. “So I think places that’s outside of the state of Florida was something piqued his interest. I think once he went up and saw Michigan, that really kind of was something he enjoyed, you know, while a lot of people from Florida might be scared of the cold.”
In the end, Michigan made the most sense for Wilson and with his decision behind him, he’ll turn his attention to preparing for his senior season and peer recruiting others to join him in Ann Arbor.
