Colin Kaepernick to hold throwing exhibition at halftime of Michigan spring game
Colin Kaepernick, the honorary Michigan spring game captain, will showcase his skills at halftime in a throwing exhibition sponsored by a U-M student group (Wolverines Against Racism).
In a tweet sent out Thursday morning, The Wolverine revealed free agent NFL pass catchers will join the former 49ers quarterback during Saturday’s event. This report comes less than a day after Michigan football announced the polarizing activist would be involved with the attraction.
It comes as no surprise given the relationship between Kaepernick and Jim Harbaugh, who coached the budding star from 2011-2014. The duo was photographed together holding a No. 7 Michigan jersey in the official announcement Wednesday evening with the attached message: “Football Family.”
Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016 following the uproar that surrounded his national anthem protests and unapologetic views on social justice, even despite the Nevada product throwing for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns in his 69 games with San Francisco.

The possibility of an NFL return for the 34-year-old is absolutely still alive, though. Kaepernick is currently traveling the country for a series of workouts that’ve reportedly drawn the attention of multiple franchises, including the Seattle Seahawks. According to to Kaepernick, both head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Scheider have recently expressed interest. No better time to give the veteran talent a second opinion with legend Russell Willson taking his talents to Denver.
The Seahawks previously worked Kaepernick out in 2017 without extending an offer. Now it’s time to find out… will it be any different this go around? How much will Michigan have played a part?
