The story from Michigan football’s pro day was a leg injury to pass rusher David Ojabo. Now, the prognosis and recovery timeline has been revealed.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Ojabo suffered a torn Achilles during his pro day workout. Medical professionals expect him to recover completely, but it is a crushing blow to a player who made a quick rise up boards this season.

“Tests confirmed that LB David Ojabo tore his Achilles, per a Michigan source,” Schefter tweeted. “Doctors expect a full and complete recovery. Rams’ RB Cam Akers tore his Achilles last summer and was back in about six months, and doctors expect Ojabo to be on the same timeline.”

Ojabo was spotted by TheWolverine.com leaving Michigan’s pro day on crutches with a walking boot and wrap on his left leg.

“God got me!” tweeted Ojabo. “Ima be back stronger than ever. All part of my story.”

Ojabo is a first-round prospect on most prospect boards heading into the 2022 NFL Draft, though his stock is up in the air now. His 11 sacks this season helped him earn first-team All-Big Ten honors. He was also an AP second-team All-American for his play last season.

Ojabo injury looms over pro day

His teammates reacted to his injury moments after he left the field on Friday morning.

“[It was] a moment of silence,” offensive lineman Andrew Stueber said. “Everyone’s kind of waiting to hear what it is. I mean, it’s always tough. I think that’s one of my least favorite things about football, the injuries. Injuries and losing — both of those things kind of go hand-in-hand.”

Safety Daxton Hill is one of Michigan’s other potential first-round prospects and lamented Ojabo’s injury during his meeting with the media on Friday.

“It was tough,” Hill said. “I mean, I couldn’t believe it. Just how hard he’s worked, the injury he had — he was just coming off a great season.

“That freak injury kind of wasn’t expected at all.”
