The Wolverine's Ej Holland Breaks Down 5 Michigan Football Commits Who Rose In The Rankings I Goblue

Phillip Wright is ready to make his decision.

The three-star wide receiver out of Destrehan (La.) High is expected to announce his commitment today around 6 p.m. ET.

Wright, who is ranked as the No. 69 wide receiver and No. 421 overall recruit nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking, has a final three of Georgia, LSU and Michigan.

Here is a closer look at where things stand.

Why It Will Be Michigan

All signs point to Michigan in this recruitment. In fact, Michigan has a 92.6 percent chance of landing Wright going into his decision, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. I logged my prediction in favor of Michigan after his official visit last month. It was there where the Wolverines really sold Wright on being a game changer in Michigan’s offense thanks to his elite speed. Wright has also said distance won’t be a factor in his decision. It appears lead recruiter Ron Bellamy, head coach Sherrone Moore and the rest of the staff have done enough to win this recruitment.

Why It Won’t Be Michigan

Michigan is considered the leader going into the decision, but LSU is starting to make a late run at Wright. The Tigers have missed out on some of their top targets and have circled back to Wright after having him on campus for an unofficial visit earlier this offseason. LSU historically recruits well at Destrehan and does a fantastic job of keeping local players at home. Georgia hasn’t been talked about much and doesn’t appear to be pressing too hard. However, the Bulldogs did host him for an official visit.

In His Own Words

“This (Michigan) visit was one of the best I’ve been on. I loved the atmosphere, and I loved how family oriented it was. All of the coaches want you to be successful at the end of the day in all aspects of life.”

EJ’s Prediction

I feel confident in my prediction for Michigan to land Wright going into the decision. Yes, LSU has made a late push, but Michigan has prioritized Wright for a longer period of time, and he has a special bond with Bellamy, who is also from Louisiana. Bellamy has put a ton of work into this recruitment and has also built strong relationships with Wright’s family and coaches. LSU will continue to recruit him after the decision, which is something to monitor. For now, however, I’m sticking with the Wolverines.
