Dominic Nichols earns fourth star, trio of Michigan signees drop to three-stars

On3 released its final rankings for the 2024 recruiting class on Monday afternoon. The On300 saw significant changes with several Michigan signees moving up and down.
The final rankings also featured updates to recruits outside of the On300. And one U-M signee made the jump from three-star to four-star status — Ijamsville (Md.) Oakdale EDGE Dominic Nichols.
An early enrollee, Nichols committed to Michigan in the summer over offers from Clemson, Florida State, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and others. Schools continued to push for Nichols throughout the fall, but he remained solid to the Wolverines and signed in December.
Nichols had a strong senior season as he led Oakdale to a state championship and recorded 84 total tackles, 15 sacks, 15 pass breakups and one interception. Nichols finished his high school career as Oakdale’s all-time leader is sacks and tackles for loss.
“Nichols is a guy who really showed improvement his senior year,” said On3 Rankings Director Charles Power. “He’s a big-bodied defensive end. He trimmed down a little bit as a senior and made explosive plays. He has the size and the stature to hold as a run defender and play as a big defensive end. But he can continue to put on weight. I see him as a versatile defensive lineman. He can play different spots. He’s shown pretty solid pass rushing ability along with run stopping skill. I think he has the size for a big edge setter.”
