Duke transfer Joey Baker commits to Michigan basketball
Michigan had to wait a few months between transfers, but head coach Juwan Howard and his staff picked up another piece for their 2022 roster when Joey Baker pledged to U-M Friday.
Baker told Jason Jordan he felt Michigan provided him the best opportunity to make an impact on a championship caliber team. He also believes Howard can maximize his total game.

As reported yesterday in Inside the Fort, Baker had been quiet. As of yesterday morning, coaches at the other schools had no idea, per sources following it closely. At midday, some in the south believed it was going to come down to Michigan and Georgia.
Baker visited U-M, Georgia and George Washington before deciding.
A former Duke captain, Baker played in 85 games with four starts in his last three seasons before entering the transfer portal. He averaged 4.5 points per game last year for a Final Four squad. The former four-star, top-40 prep is a 6-6 shooter who made 38 percent of his triples in his career.

Baker’s Michigan visit went extremely well last week, per those close to it, and he was intrigued at the thought of playing significant minutes in a lineup with All-American center Hunter Dickinson. He’ll now get his opportunity.
The wing joins Princeton combo guard Jaelin Llewellyn as transfer portal additions this year. Michigan still has one scholarship available after Moussa Diabate and Caleb Houstan opted to remain in the draft. Though Louisville was once considered the frontrunner, Bates held off pledging, many believed to see what Houstan would do.
