WATCH: Dusty May, Michigan players discuss areas of emphasis during off time
ANN ARBOR – The Michigan Wolverines are sitting at 8-2 and are in the middle of an 8-day break between games, next playing Oklahoma on Dec. 18 in Charlotte, North Carolina as part of the Jumpman Invitational.
Head coach Dusty May says it’s an interesting point in the schedule as they look to round into full Big Ten form ahead of the new year.

“We’re at an interesting point. It’s the longest period we had to practice in season since games have started. Our guys have finals, projects, exams, and what not. We’re trying to be strategic, but also addressing some, some flaws, with our game. But we had a really good practice yesterday and excited to get back after today.
May’s Friday media session from Crisler Center can be watched in full below, along with sessions from Michigan guard Nimari Burnett and forward Will Tschetter.
Michigan head coach Dusty May
May on revisiting the loss against Arkansas:
“Looking at the film, we didn’t feel great about it. We made too many mistakes. Self-inflicted, and credit Arkansas. They played well. They made plays. They have some really dynamic playmakers. So first tip the cap, tip of the cap to them. But we felt like we made a lot of self-inflicted errors. And in that environment, if you do that, you shrink your margin.”
Redshirt junior forward Will Tschetter
Tschetter on areas of emphasis (rebounding and turnovers)
“Those are exactly the two things we looked at yesterday. We looked at Kempon, how we’re an elite team in almost every facet, except for those two things. We watched every single turnover we had in that game, how we could fix it. Watched every single board that we didn’t grab defensively and how we could have fixed that. And then we emphasize that to a team during practice.”
Graduate guard Nimari Burnett
Burnett on Michigan not overemphasizing mistakes
“It’s a unique balance within that because if you overemphasize turnovers or any area of the game, you kind of overthink as a player when you’re out there, ‘I can’t turn the ball over. I have to go rebound’ So I think it’s just about trusting the coaches and them trusting us. And then working on it in practice, show improvement as a team. And I think that emphasis will help us not overemphasize it, but do the right amount of it and have better improvement going forward.”
