ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Michigan Wolverines got back in the win column on Monday night with a clutch 76-72 win over Penn State, moving their record to 15-5 and 7-2 in the Big Ten this season. The game included a 9-0 run down the stretch, the last 7 coming from junior point guard Tre Donaldson (21 points, 7 assists, 4 steals).

Michigan head coach Dusty May, Donaldson and graduate guard Rubin Jones recapped the win, which came a few days after a humbling 91-64 setback at Purdue on Friday night.

”You have to imagine that Big Ten games are great for television ratings with these games coming down to the wire and Penn State coming off a close game at Iowa where they played well on the road,” May said after the victory. “And for this game to be back and forth and our guys to stay with it when things weren’t going well we didn’t shoot free throws during a very pivotal moment in the second half… we missed shots around the rim. For all that to happen and our guys not to drop their head and keep battling and fightingis a good sign going forward that they’re poised.

“They’re not looking at the scoreboard worried about what might happen. They’re simply playing the game, taking in all the information and despite us not clicking yet, we do feel like we’re making steps in the right direction.”

On playing through game with Vladislav Goldin under the weather: “Vlad came out, I think. I don’t think he wasn’t feeling too good today. I don’t even think he did shoot around this morning, but he came around and he still showed up for the team, still was a good teammate through it all. It’s a team game, some guys go down, the guys got to step up and I think that’s what happened tonight.”
