East Carolina QB transfer Jake Garcia signs with Michigan football

Jake Garcia is on the move again, with the East Carolina quarterback transfer signing with Michigan Wolverines football. On3’s Pete Nakos reported the news Monday evening.
The 6-foot-3, 203-pounder is headed to his fourth school in five seasons, having began his career at Miami (Fla.) from 2021-22, before spending time at Missouri (2023) and East Carolina (2024). He has one year of eligibility remaining.
The Whittier, Calif., native also attended two different high schools. He started at Narbonne (Calif.) High prior to transferring to Grayson (Ga.) High because California canceled the 2020 high school season. He was originally committed to USC but wound up at Miami, signing in December 2020.
Garcia is the No. 1,075 overall player and No. 77 quarterback in the transfer portal this offseason, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
Garcia is the sixth member of Michigan’s quarterback group, joining graduates Mikey Keene and Davis Warren, sophomore Jadyn Davis and freshmen Chase Herbstreit and Bryce Underwood.
Garcia has appeared in 15 games with seven starts during his college football career. He’s completed 188 of his 310 passes (60.6 percent) for 2,376 yards and 15 touchdowns with 16 interceptions, while logging 40 rush attempts for 46 yards and 2 scores.

Heading into the 2024 season at East Carolina, Garcia beat out Michigan State transfer Katin Houser for the starting job. He opened the first six games before being benched, and Houser took over. That season, Garcia connected on 60.2 percent of his passes (109-of-181) for 1,426 yards and 8 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.
Garcia didn’t see any game action during his lone season at Missouri 2023. He was a significant contributor for Miami in 2022, however, completing 59.6 percent of his passes (68-of-114) for 803 yards and 5 touchdowns with 4 interceptions. He appeared in eight contests, and his lone start came in a 14-12 four-overtime victory over Virginia. He threw for 125 yards, going 15-of-31 through the air, in that win.
The Michigan transfer commit redshirted in 2021, appearing in one game before suffering a season-ending injury. He went 11-of-14 for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns in Miami’s win over Central Connecticut.
A four-star recruit, Garcia was ranked as the No. 53 overall player and 10th-best quarterback in the nation in the 2021 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
