WATCH: Re-setting expectations after the bye week and where Michigan can improve
The Michigan Wolverines are out of a bye week and preparing for a game at Illinois on Saturday. So what sort of clarity did the week off provide for the squad?
TheWolverine.com’s Anthony Broome, Clayton Sayfie and Chris Balas discuss the bye week and takeaways from across college football, in addition to resetting expectations for Michigan football and taking fan questions to end the show.
The conversation began with some of the takeaways from the bye week, including a look at the rest of the Big Ten.
“Watched every Big Ten game and watched games around the country,” Balas said. “What I learned is that Michigan probably has the worst passing game in the country. And I don’t think that’s hyperbole if we’re watching, uh, all these other teams that know what they’re doing. There are teams with a lot less talent that are doing a lot more with their wide receivers. And of course, part of that’s the quarterback position, which we all said in the spring, they needed to go to the portal. We thought so, um, that’s kind of on them at the same time.
“Michigan’s got a long, long way to go. And that kind of confirmed it for me, everything that I saw on Saturday kind of confirmed it for me. There are lots of position coaches at Michigan that need to step up their games and make their groups better going into this Illinois game, or they’ll lose that one too.”

the travel is taking a toll [for several teams]. I’m wondering what are these teams doing a week after some of these long trips, because Sherrone Moore talked about it where coming in, they wanted to kind of set it up where it’s a night game eastern time, which it was, they didn’t want to really adjust to the time change, but then he said, when you get back at 5:30 in the morning, the bye was much needed.”
