What should have been a momentum-continuing Michigan football win at Michigan State wasn’t, thanks to several untimely mistakes in a 37-33 loss.

The Wolverines probably win this one eight times out of 10, and if one of 10 things goes right — whether it’s a call (overturn), the dropped passes (Blake Corum, Cornelius Johnson), getting the defense set (come on, Mike Macdonald), they win despite playing so many things having gone wrong. 

But the line play simply wasn’t good enough in the run game Saturday, and it started on the first play with a missed block by a veteran …

And that’s what’s tough to stomach about Michigan football over the last several years. They play well enough to win, play well in spurts, but it’s the attention to detail and the little things that often make the difference in big games, as we saw with Ohio State in 2016 and others.
