Collins joined Michigan sophomore Zeb Jackson and senior Brandon Johns in leaving for the portal this year. Jackson left mid-year, Johns after the season. Both ended up at VCU, but Collins is the first player recruited by head coach Juwan Howard to leave the program.

Collins was considered a frontrunner to take over for Michigan at point guard after DeVante’ Jones’ graduation. Instead, he’ll be a Sun Devil. He averaged 2.8 points in 11.0 minutes per game, playing in 31 contests. The Nevada native shot 42.7 percent from the floor at Michigan this year, but only 16.7 percent from three-point range and 44.1 percent from the free throw line. He averaged 1.4 assists to 1.1 turnovers per game.

He had reportedly heard from Arizona State, Texas A&M, Wichita State, Murray State, Seton Hall, BYU, GCU, Vanderbilt, and Tennessee.

Michigan coach Juwan Howard and his staff had been looking to the portal to add guards and wings. They hosted Texas Tech transfer Terrence Shannon Jr., who was expected to join the program if he got through admissions. However, he wound up at Illinois. Texas Tech was rumored to be working on keeping him, as well.
