Michigan vs. Oregon notes
• Juwan Howard returned to U-M’s bench at the Battle 4 Atlantis. Despite his return, associate head coach Phil Martelli still has served as the Wolverines’ interim head coach. Howard underwent a successful heart procedure (Sept. 15) at the University of Michigan Health Samuel and Jean Frankel Cardiovascular Center.
• U-M’s trip to Oregon has been four years in the making. After agreeing to a home-and-home series in 2019, the Ducks escaped Ann Arbor with a 71-70 overtime victory at Crisler Center (Dec. 14, 2019). With the departure of John Beilein to the NBA and Howard coming on board, scheduling the Wolverines’ return visit will now be fulfilled.
• Michigan’s trip out west will be the first of many to come for the Wolverines. Effective in August 2024, Oregon, Washington, UCLA and USC will join the Big Ten in all sponsored sports. The additions will increase the Big Ten to 18 universities.
