Jim Mora Jr. on Michigan: 'They are a contender for the national championship'
ANN ARBOR — UConn coach Jim Mora Jr. had a bad feeling watching Michigan warm up before its game with his team Saturday. When it was over, he said he’d never experienced anything like the 59-0 whooping the Wolverines put on his team Saturday.

“I’ve never had a day like this in my career,” Mora, former Atlanta Falcons and UCLA coach, said. “[That’s] a team that will be contending for the national championship, and they served it up pretty good to us today.”
His starting quarterback, Zion Turner, completed only 4-of-16 passes for 17 (!) yards. Michigan amassed 465 yards to UConn’s 110, notched 26 first downs to 6 and dominated both sides of the ball.
“We were overwhelmed as an offense today,” Mora said, comparing the Michigan defense to the Georgia defense that handled U-M in the Orange Bowl. … “They don’t have a weakness on that football team.
“They have 140 players that are big, fast, strong, physical, well-coached. They play with violence … they play with energy. They don’t miss tackles. They challenge you. They run the ball well, they pass the ball well, their quarterback runs it well … they’ve got speed all over the field.”

In short, it was every bit the shellacking most predicted it would be. The Wolverines were nearly a 50-point favorite by kickoff, and it was 38-0 at the half.
The Huskies had no open receivers, no running game, and no answer for the Michigan speed on the perimeter.
“I looked down in pregame warmup — it looked like an army down there,” Mora said. “They had so many players, and they’re all great players. That’s why I don’t think … they are a contender for the national championship right now. It’s not in dispute, in my opinion.”
