In-state linebacker Aidan Vaughan visited Michigan last month.

Aidan Vaughan is quickly rising up recruiting boards across the country.

Over the last few weeks, the 2022 in-state linebacker from Walled Lake (Mich.) Western has notched offers from Power Five programs like Iowa, Florida State, Louisville, Maryland, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

“The last two weeks have been crazy,” Vaughan said. “Ever since I put out my mid-season and regular season highlights, recruiting has been picking up like crazy. I’ve worked really hard to put myself out there by going out to minicamps and budling connections. I finally got the missing piece, which was film.”

Vaughan originally committed to Air Force this summer but backed out of his verbal pledge following his flurry of offers.

Now that he’s back on the open market, Vaughan plans to carefully analyze his options and see what other opportunities pop up. Michigan is closely evaluating Vaughan and hosted him for an unofficial visit for the game against Northwestern a couple of weeks ago.

“It went really well,” Vaughan said. “I went with my dad and little brother. We enjoyed watching the game. We got to talk to a few of the coaches, and we had some great conversations. It was fun watching Michigan play and run around on defense.”

Vaughan spoke with U-M linebackers coach George Helow and Director of Player Personnel Courtney Morgan. Both let him know that they are continuing to evaluate him as they look to take another linebacker this cycle.

“I talked to Coach Helow and Coach Morgan,” Vaughan said. “They just told me that they liked my film a lot and that they’ve been keeping an eye on me. I went to a minicamp, but now that the film is out, they like what they see. They are going to be in touch.”

Vaughan added that a Michigan offer would mean a lot for his recruitment.

“It would be really exciting with it being close to home,” Vaughan said. “My family was always Michigan fans growing up. It would definitely be something to consider. I like how they put kids in the league. Development is big. And just the tradition they have.”

Vaughan plans to graduate in December and enroll early at the school of his choice. He has no exact decision timeline or any official visits scheduled at this time.

At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Vaughan is not currently ranked.
