LOOK: Michigan football players visit ‘Little Victors’ at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital
J.J. McCarthy, Donovan Edwards, Junior Colson and Carter Selzer spent time with a group of ‘Little Victors’ on Thursday at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, which is a part of Michigan Medicine.
Sports marketing agency Valiant even captured a moment of one kid getting the chance to draw up play with the student-athletes. McCarthy takes home the assist on an incredible throw.
Via mottchildren.org: “Since 1903, the University of Michigan has led the way in providing comprehensive, specialized health care for children. Our mission is to integrate clinical care, education, research and advocacy to advance the health status of children, women, and their families and communities statewide.”
In December 2021, McCarthy promised to donate a portion of his NIL earnings to ‘children’s hospitals, families, and programs in need.’ Out of more than $10,000 worth of charity, $2,000 went to the “Charles Woodson Clinical Research Fund” at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Woodson, a Michigan football immortal, created the fund in 2009 to advance innovative research initiatives, help offer cures for children and provide hope to families who need it most.
Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy talks NIL
McCarthy (via Clayton Sayfie): “Yeah, it’s great. It’s a great opportunity to earn some extra money and all that, but at the end of the day it’s going to be chump change compared to where you really want to go. The league is going to be what we’re searching for, and a lot of people, you go to a school and get paid millions of dollars [for signing], and they get fooled and they get complacent.
“But when it’s Michigan, it’s all about the transformative experience. It’s about developing and growing as an individual, and the money is a byproduct of you growing as an individual.”

On the charitable aspect: “It’s been great because of that reason, and it also gives us athletes no excuse to be able to perform at our best, because we have so many opportunities now to be at our optimal performance.”
