The Michigan offense got a huge boost today when H-back/tight end Max Bredeson announced he’d return to U-M for one last season. Bredeson, a captain, has been a significant part of U-M’s toughness and success in the running game the past few seasons and will fulfill that key role again in 2025.

“Stuff like this, definitely [makes you want to come back],” Bredeson said after a win over Alabama. “But we’ll see how that goes.”

He said he expected to have a decision within a week, and now he’s made it official. Culture has been key in the U-M resurgence and championship runs, and he’s been a huge part of it.

“Sometimes, it gets tested,” Bredeson said. “Sometimes, you really feel it kind of bending, and it goes right back to what it was. That’s how important culture is, and that’s when you really find out what it’s about.”

Bredeson announced his return via instagram with a video montage of his highlights and a simple, “team 146 let’s do it.”

A former walk-on, Bredeson was named a finalist for the 2024 Burksworth Trophy, an award given to the most outstanding player who was originally a walk-on. He has 10 career receptions for 121 yards, but his contributions go far beyond the statistics.

“He’s the ultimate competitor, the ultimate leader … everything you want in a captain, and a guy you want on your team,” head coach Sherrone Moore said of Bredeson in his pre-Alabama press conference, noting he wanted him back. “He’s as physical as any player in college football, I would say. He’s everything you want from a leader on your team.

“He impacts our team not just on the field, but off the field in huge ways, making sure the locker room is aligned in every single way. I just can’t speak highly enough about that young man. I’m just excited for him and making his determination, whatever he does.”
