Michigan 2024 signee Christian Anderson re-opens recruitment
The Michigan Wolverines are going through a coaching change from Juwan Howard to Dusty May, and with that comes uncertainty. Class of 2024 signee Christian Anderson is going to take the time to evaluate his options, announcing on Friday that he has reopened his recruitment.
ESPN’s Jonathan Givony was the first to report the news, via Anderson’s father. Anderson averaged 20 points per game and shot 49% from three this year at Oak Hill Academy. Players can ask out of their national letters of intent following a coaching change.
“I want to take a moment to thank Juwan Howard and his staff for recruiting me since I was a sophomore in high school,” Anderson posted on social media. “I loved everything about what Michigan was offering. However, with recent news of Michigan parting ways with Juwan and his staff, I’d like to announce that I have re-opened my recruitment and will take this time to decide what the best school for me next year will be.”
Anderson is a four-star recruit and the No. 108 player in the 2024 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He was one of two signees in U-M’s 2024 haul, along with three-star guard Durral Brooks. Brooks has reaffirmed his commitment to Michigan and is set to stick around next year, his high school coach informed TheWolverine.com on Thursday.
Michigan could have as many as 11 scholarships open for next season, depending on what Terrance Williams, Jace Howard and Nimari Burnett choose to do with their fifth seasons of eligibility. Will Tschetter is left with two seasons of eligibility remaining in Ann Arbor.

May and Michigan have been busy evaluating the roster and making contact with players via the transfer portal. No attrition or evaluation is unexpected.
“The next few weeks there’s going to be a lot of evaluation,” May told Brian Boesch on the Defend The Block podcast. “The current players, I’m sure, will be evaluating me and I’ll be evaluating them and we’ll all see if this is the right fit. I’m not going to rush into any quick decisions but, obviously, recruiting is very fluid right now so we have to identify some guys who would be right for us and be very, very decisive in who we go after. First, we need to get a staff and start really trying to put together a quality roster.”
“We’re going to have to lean on our network for information, for the right information, and talk to people that we trust around the players. I know that in my experience as a head coach and even as an assistant that if players don’t, number one, enjoy or love playing basketball or love to compete, period. You could be one of those two things and be fine because usually competitors figure out a way to win. They do what’s necessary to improve and whatnot. Those are the two traits. After that, you have to have a foundation of talent and skill. It’s putting those pieces in the right — as Jim Collins said, get the right people on the bus and get them in the right seats. That’s going to be the goal.”
