Michigan adds former Charlotte, Western Michigan assistant to staff

The Michigan Wolverines are days away from the start of spring football on March 18, but not yet done adding to head coach Sherrone Moore’s support staff.

U-M has hired former Charlotte and Western Michigan coach David Denham as an Assistant Defensive Line coach, according to the school’s directory. He will work alongside Lou Esposito in the defensive trenches.

Denham was with Charlotte during the 2024 season with Biff Poggi, who re-joined Michigan this offseason as its associate head coach. He coached the defensive tackles in the Queen City and was also the recruiting coordinator.

Prior to that, he worked with Esposito at Western Michigan and was a consistent developer of talent, including players like Braden Fiske and Marshawn Kneeland, two NFL Draft picks last season.

Denham’s previous stops include the University of Indianapolis, Wabash College, Saint Joseph’s College, Rose-Hulman and Ball State University. He played college football at Tiffin University and Ball State.
