Newsstand: Aidan Hutchinson sets record in Lions victory
The Michigan Wolverines are no strangers to cranking out NFL pass rushers, but recent star and 2021 Heisman Trophy runner-up Aidan Hutchinson may be its best yet. The No. 2 overall pick of the Detroit Lions was instrumental in the team’s 42-24 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, helping the team’s record improve to 4-1.
Hutchinson had three tackles, a sack and an interception on Sunday, making him the first defensive lineman to record four career interceptions through his first two seasons.
“It looks like Hutch has found his signature move,” Jerry Mallory of SB Nation’s Pride of Detroit wrote. “Not the Michael Jackson kick nor the Stanky Leg… but the spin move. It was a vintage Hutch performance from way back to his rookie year as he not only was active rushing the passer, but also in pass defense as he notched his first interception of the year—setting the record for the most interceptions (4) by a defensive lineman through their first two seasons.

“Along with the stats that stand out (3 tackles, 1.0 sack, and 1 interception) he was a constant presence with pressures, run defense and overall activity: another Hutch special. During a week where we went up against one of the league’s best edge defenders in Brian Burns, Aidan Hutchinson looked just as good—if not better.”

Michigan quote of the day
Leon, he just plays so well. Contributes so much on special teams. He’s a heckuva running back, too. He played last week, had a really good game. Jack Tuttle, thought that scramble by him that picked up the 19 yards on 3rd and 18 was big. These guys prepare so well. This game was a lot won during the week again. It was one of those incredible weeks of practice and we’ll go back to work and that seems to be the formula. Put the gameplan in, practice it and then go out and execute it.
