Michigan assistants Mike Hart, Ron Bellamy make satellite camp stop in Detroit

DETROIT, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines football continues to blitz the country at satellite camps. The Maize and Blue have been all over America over the last week-plus, but is also prioritizing their own backyard, evidenced by running backs coach and run game coordinator Mike Hart and wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy attending Wayne State’s prospect camp Wednesday evening.
Hart and Bellamy were joined by Michigan graduate assistants Milan Bolden-Morris, who works with quarterbacks, and Dylan Roney, who assists with outside linebackers.
Unlike some camps across the country, Wayne State’s event did not feature any Michigan-caliber 2023 prospects. However, that didn’t stop the Wolverines from showing up. Michigan State, Minnesota, Central Michigan and others were also in attendance.

Michigan attended the Wayne State camp last year and clearly feels it’s important to show its face in Detroit. Relationship building is half the battle, and the Wolverines under head coach Jim Harbaugh are intent on making the most of the 10 days they’re allowed to be at satellite camps.
Three of U-M’s six 2023 commits are from the state, and the Wolverines want to continue landing top in-state talent. Of note, they’re pushing hard for 2023 five-star quarterback Dante Moore out of Detroit Martin Luther King High.

“It’s super important,” Harbaugh said at Ferris State last week after being asked about the importance of in-state recruiting. “The level of football has always been high in the state of Michigan. I go back to when I played high school football in the state of Michigan, just the amount of how much better it’s getting each year, it’s really obvious and noticeable.”
The Michigan staff members made quite the impression, too.
Hart was seen chatting up campers and spent extensive time with fellow college coaches, including Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton. Hart didn’t work for Creighton when he was on the Eagles’ staff from 2011-13, but the two have apparently formed a relationship — and these events are networking hotbeds.
Bellamy was even more active, especially with the high school players. West Bloomfield (Mich.) High’s head coach for 11 years before joining the Michigan staff in 2021, Bellamy knows the ropes at an event like this, and it shows. His charisma was on display — shaking hands, snapping pictures and always engaged.
The rain began to come down about midway through the four-hour camp, but in typical Detroit fashion, that didn’t deter anybody from having an afternoon / evening in football. The spirits were high, and Michigan coaches were a part of making it an enjoyable experience for the youngsters.
