Michigan coach Juwan Howard is leaving no stone unturned in search of another addition to the 2022 roster. The Wolverines got a transfer portal pledge from Duke’s Joey Baker and are now trying to close with Lebanese standout Youssef Khayat.

The 6-7 wing/forward announced a final four Sunday (June 19), and Michigan was one of the quartet, as expected.

“I would like to announce that I have narrowed down my recruitment to my final four schools, Khayat announced on instagram. “First I would like to thank my friends and family that have helped guide me through this process so far. I’d also like to thank the Csp Limoges staff and teammates for all they have done for me. I would not be in this position without them.

“I am looking forward to completing my recruitment and making my final decision soon.”

He’s expected to decide within the next few weeks.

As reported yesterday, the Michigan target played in the European Limoges CSP program and averaged 17.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and nearly two assists per game in one of Europe’s top youth leagues. He also played with the Lebanon national team and moved to France, where Michigan has been watching him.

“Khayat projects as an excellent two-way player at D-I level because of his defensive prowess and ability to score the ball within the flow of the game,” Eurohoops.net wrote of the Michigan recruit. “With his size and athleticism, it’s hard to stop him in the open court and when finishing on the move and off the catch. He probably won’t be someone who scores 20-points night in and night out but he’s going to impact winning at a high major level.”

That report was from early December. Khayat has since upped his game.

Howard has been all over this one and put Michigan in good position. Xavier, Wake Forest and DePaul the others involved with him. He hasn’t been able to visit due to visa issues and will likely pick a school sight unseen.

The Wolverines added Princeton point guard Jaelin Llewellyn from the portal and also recruited several others. Illinois’ Jacob Grandison ended up at Duke and Texas Tech’s Terrance Shannon Jr. at Illinois. Memphis’ Emoni Bates remains uncommitted, but Michigan hasn’t pushed there yet.

Watch for more on this and others developments in the days to come.
