Michigan basketball announces 2023-24 non-conference schedule
Michigan men’s basketball has made its 2023-24 non-conference slate of games official, announcing the 11 games it is scheduled to play on Wednesday morning. The Wolverines will open the season on Nov. 3 with an exhibition game against a to-be-determined opponent at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor.
The regular season kicks off with a home date against UNC Asheville on Nov. 7 with a showdown with Youngstown State at home on Nov. 10. From there, Michigan will head to Madison Square Garden in New York City for a Gavitt Tipoff Games matchup with St. John’s.
Michigan returns home on Nov. 17 for a game against Long Beach State and then heads to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis event that features Arkansas, Memphis, North Carolina, Northern Iowa, Stanford, Texas Tech and Villanova. The Wolverines will play three games in three days over the Thanksgiving holiday week from Nov. 22-24. The Wolverines won the event in 2019 in head coach Juwan Howard‘s first season on the job.
Michigan heads to Oregon on Dec. 2 to repay their end of the deal in a home-and-home series. The Ducks came to Ann Arbor and won 71-70 in the first game of the contract back in 2019. U-M’s next scheduled game is set for Dec. 16 at home against Eastern Michigan before heading to Charlotte, North Carolina for the Jumpman Invitational game against Florida.
The Wolverines close out the non-conference slate with a home game against McNeese on Dec. 29.

Michigan has added three transfers to the roster for next season, all officially signed. Guard Nimari Burnett (Alabama), forward/wing Tray Jackson (Seton Hall) and forward Olivier Nkamhoua (Tennessee) are all expected to come in and compete for starting jobs. With Michigan needing to replace the production lost from Kobe Bufkin, Jett Howard and Hunter Dickinson leaving the program, it has been an all-hands-on-deck effort to get things headed back in the right direction.
Michigan has a pair of scholarships remaining after adding the three transfers and a true freshman in 2024 in three-star combo guard George Washington III. The Wolverines might not yet be done adding to the roster, either. The roster could use another guard and a true backup center to soon-to-be sophomore Tarris Reed.
The Wolverines went 18-16 last season, missing the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 and splitting the games they played in the NIT with a win over Toledo and a loss at Vanderbilt. The goal is to get back to the tournament in 2023-24 and get some momentum back for head coach Juwan Howard.
