TheWolverine.com’s Clayton Sayfie and Ant Wright, analyst and former Michigan basketball player, break down the Wolverines’ NCAA Tournament draw — honing in on the first-round matchup against Colorado State — and discuss the tournament as a whole, which Big Ten teams could make deep runs and more.

Michigan Wolverines basketball earned its sixth straight NCAA Tournament bid. U-M is a No. 11 seed in the South Region and will take on sixth-seeded Colorado State in Indianapolis Thursday. The winner will face either No. 3 seed Tennessee and No. 14 seed Longwood.

Wright believes Michigan’s draw is as good as it could be. The Wolverines were on the edge of being a team in the First Four, but ultimately received a bye to the round of 64, and that is a positive for a team that is 17-14 heading into the Big Dance. While he said Colorado State is a good team and we broke down their strengths and weaknesses, it’s still a mid-major squad with some question marks. The Rams are 6-3 against teams in the NCAA Tournament field, but are 1-4 in games against common opponents that Michigan also faced, having lost to San Diego State and UNLV twice and beaten SDSU in one of the three meetings.

We discuss Michigan’s size advantage against the quicker style of play Colorado State runs, and what advantages and disadvantages that comes with the stark contrast between the two teams. We also talk about Iowa — who one of the hosts has in the Final Four — Purdue and other Big Ten teams that could make some noise this March. One host believes Illinois will make the Sweet 16 for the first time in over a decade, while the other think they’ll get bounced early. Ohio State is another Big Ten team to watch, especially when it comes to the health of Kyle Young and Zed Key, two front court players who have missed time late in the season.
