Highlight From This Michigan Basketball Podcast
Dickinson led Michigan in scoring each of the last two seasons, and he’s one of the few returning stars in the Big Ten. That gives the Wolverines a big leg up on the competition, knowing their star’s fate ahead of the summer’s draft cycle.
“It’s huge,” Wright said of Dickinson returning to Michigan. “It’s huge being able to solidify your frontcourt. That would’ve been a position where it’s like, OK, is [Michigan signee] Tarris Reed going to have to come in and play right away. Very good player, by the way — Tarris Reed, I am a big fan of him. Be on the lookout, I have a breakdown on him coming out very, very soon. But Tarris Reed has been improving every single year for the last three years, and now he’s a top-40 player.
“Now you’re going to have that dude backing up, in my opinion, the consensus Big Ten Player of the Year. That’s going to be big for them to battle back and forth. It’s going to give you another option when it comes to [redshirt freshman] Will Tschetter. Will Tschetter is a really good shooter, a post-up player — he can play the ‘4.’ You have Moussa still in limbo, but if Moussa were to leave, a lot of minutes do open up at the ‘4’ for some shooting now to surround Hunter.
“People think that Hunter dropped off last year. That’s the opposite. I was talking with Hunter during the Final Four, and we were talking about how much his game has improved this year — and it improved while the spacing was a 180 from the previous year. We were just laughing about how it’s going to be crazy if he were to play in another heavy spaced-out offense. I think that can happen next year, and that could be pretty scary.”
