Former Michigan basketball forward Caleb Houstan officially has his NBA future locked in. The 32nd overall pick (second round) in the 2022 NBA Draft signed with the Orlando Magic on Sunday, securing his future in the pros.

NBA teams do not disclose the terms of contracts in official releases.

The team announced Sunday it had locked in its second pick. This came after a hot-shooting debut in NBA Summer League action over the weekend, helping lead his team to a 91-77 win over the Houstan Rockets.”

“As the team’s leading scorer with 20 points, Houstan was a massive part of the win against the Rockets,” The Magic Insider wrote. “His five threes led the team and he looked really solid.

“The Magic struggled mightily from shooting beyond the arc last season, and having a player like Houstan in the lineup to create space and a shooting threat from the outside to free some of the weapons on the interior will really help the Magic in the long run.”

Houstan scored eight points and shot 3-for-10 from the field (2-for-7 from three) in the second summer league game, a 94-92 double-overtime win over the Sacramento Kings.

Houstan, who was a five-star signee and No. 10 prospect in the 2021 recruiting class, started 34 games at Michigan last season. He averaged 10.1 points, four rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Houstan shot 38.4% from the field with a 35.5% mark from three-point range. He did not appear on many draft boards at the end of the season, but elected to stay in the draft. This fueled speculation that he might have a first-round promise from a team, but he ultimately slipped just outside the top 30 picks.

Michigan quote of the day

“I started working on that [defensive improvements] my junior year of college. No disrespect to Coach [JohnBeilein, but when Coach [JuwanHoward came in, he established the NBA lingo and communication. It was hard at first, but once you got it, it felt natural. Then, my time off last year allowed me to watch what [Pistons head] Coach [DwaneCasey likes to do defensively.”
