WATCH: Dusty May, players recap exhibition win over Toledo
ANN ARBOR – The Michigan Wolverines closed out their two-game exhibition slate this season with a 96-92 win over the Toledo Rockets on Friday night. The game was the Crisler Center debut of head coach Dusty May and his new-look squad, which featured plenty of fireworks and some up-and-down play on both ends of the floor.
Michigan was led in scoring by junior forward Roddy Gayle Jr. and freshman guard L.J. Cason, each of them putting up 20 points in the victory. Both were made available to the media, along with May, following the conclusion on Friday night’s tuneup.

The victory came after a 92-48 win over Oakland on Sunday evening in Detroit. Both games were played to benefit local charities.
May weighed in after the game on what he thinks he learned about his group a little over a week out from the start of the regular season.
“We learned we have a lot of good players,” May said to close his presser. “I thought [freshman guard] Phat Phat Brooks came in and really gave us a jolt in the first half. When you look at our bench production, I don’t even call those bench points because I look at those guys as starters. Those guys have all performed really well over two games. It shows the depth that we thought we had. We do in fact have that depth.

“And we have a lot of different guys that can step up and be our best player on any given night. As you see tonight, we had two leading scorers. It’s an affirmation of what we thought, the balance of our team, and overall, we learned a lot about ourselves. We played against a zone, so there’ll be some stuff to refer back to, and then we played a team today that typically executes well in the half-court. And they did, but they also lined us up and went one on one and played exceptionally well in that facet.”
