Michigan basketball has reached out to Indiana transfer Malik Reneau

Michigan coach Dusty May is preparing his team for a Sweet 16 matchup with Auburn Friday, but he’s also preparing for next season, too. The transfer portal is open, and the Wolverines will need big men — they reached out to another recently, per On3’s Joe Tipton, in Indiana power forward Malik Reneau.
The junior from Miami averaged 13.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for an IU team that just missed the NCAA Tournament and parted ways with coach Mike Woodson.
“I want to thank Coach Woodson and his entire staff for giving me an opportunity to play for the University of Indiana,” Reneau said on X. “I will miss the fans and all the great people in Bloomington. After discussions with my family, I’ve chosen to enter the transfer portal.”
Reneau moved to the bench as sixth man before game at Michigan State this year, an IU upset victory, and scored 19 points to lead the team past the Spartans. Though it didn’t sit well with his player, Woodson said after the game, he played one of his best games of the season with 19 points and 12 rebounds in the 71-67 win.

“I can’t say enough about Malik, because I went to him before the game and told him he wasn’t starting,” Woodson told the Herald-Times. “That didn’t sit well with him, but he said, ‘Coach, whatever you need me to do.’ He came in and played his ass off. That’s all you can ask for. It’s about team.”
Reneau suffered an MCL sprain midway though the season but finally started finding his groove again in February. The 6-9 standout notched 16 points, five assists, and three rebounds in a 70-67 loss to Michigan Feb. 8, playing 30 minutes and playing well.
Some believe he’s looking to transfer closer to home, and Miami (Fla.) is on his list. However, he’s entertaining offers from schools across the country and will likely take a few visits before deciding. He’ll have one year of eligibility left wherever he ends up.
Watch for more on Reneau and other targets in the days and weeks to come.
