Wolverine TV: Howard Eisley breaks down Michigan basketball guard play, more
Michigan Wolverines basketball assistant coach Howard Eisley met with the media Friday morning to discuss the team’s guard play, preview Sunday’s matchup with Indiana and more.
Freshman wing Caleb Houstan also spoke with reporters, discussing how sophomore center Hunter Dickinson‘s passing ability makes life easier for the shooters and much more. Houstan was asked about making sure Michigan is able to ride the momentum that Tuesday night’s blowout of Maryland gave them, and he pointed to defensive intensity as the best way to do so.

Eisley’s group is led by team captain and fifth-year senior guard Eli Brooks, who is using the NCAA’s free year of eligibility from 2020 and back for one more year in college. Nicknamed ‘The Professor,’ Brooks has been described as a coach on the floor and the head of the snake for Michigan.
“He’s been doing a great job for us,” Eisley said of the Michigan captain. “We’ve obviously asked a lot more from him on both ends of the floor. “Every night, he’s always guarding the best offensive player on the wing. We’re asking him to have more of a scoring role to help us as we transition to some of our younger guys. Playing in conference, we think he’s handled it really well. Obviously, when you become more of a main option, teams try to defend you a little bit differently.”
Eisley also broke down Michigan freshman point Frankie Collins‘ alley oop layup from the 83-64 win over Maryland Tuesday night, and discussed the guard’s athleticism in comparison to other players he’s been around.
“I was — ‘oh, no, no, no. Yes! Yes!'” Eisley said of the lay-in. “It was one of those types of plays.

“He’s probably one of the most athletic guys I’ve had the opportunity to coach, and now we’re just continuing to work and have him pick his points where he can really impact the game on both ends of the floor with his athleticism as well as his defensive pressure.”
