Game recap, box score from Michigan basketball's victory at Indiana
Michigan basketball moved to 9-7 (3-3 in Big Ten play) on the season in a 80-62 victory on the road at Indiana on Sunday afternoon. It gave the Wolverines their first win streak since beating San Diego State (Dec. 4) and Nebraska (Dec. 7).
Michigan was led by a dominant effort from sophomore center Hunter Dickinson, who had 25 points and eight rebounds. This included hitting 3-of-4 shots from beyond the arc.
Freshman forward Caleb Houstan continued his hot streak, finishing with 19 points on (7-for-12, 5-for-7 from three) shooting.
Here is the full recap of events from Sunday’s contest in Bloomington.
First half
Indiana big man Trayce Jackson-Davis and Michigan forward Moussa Diabate cashed in a pair of free throws to tie the game at 2-2 to start the game. IU’s Xavier Johnson scored on a layup on the other end. Indiana would lead 4-2 with just over 17 minutes to play.
Michigan followed that stretch up with a 9-0 run thanks to a layup from Diabate, dunk from Dickinson, a three-pointer from Houstan and a layup from DeVante’ Jones. The Wolverines took an 11-4 lead at the 15:20 mark.
Hot shooting carried into the next four-minute stretch of the game with threes from Houstan and Dickinson helping Michigan out to a 17-7 lead. Four-straight points from Diabate ballooned the lead to 21-9 halfway through the first 20 minutes.
Michigan used the next three minutes to stretch its lead even more. A long-two from Dickinson, followed by a pair of three-pointers from Brandon Johns and Terrance Williams extended the deficit to 29-13 in favor of the Wolverines at the 7:16 mark. For a bit, it looked as if Michigan was ready to run the Hoosiers out of their own building.
Indiana answered, though. The Hoosiers went on a 9-0 run to narrow the deficit to 29-22. Five-straight points from Williams allowed Michigan to re-establish a 12-point lead at 34-22 with 2:56 left in the half. Indiana swung right back with a 6-0 run of its own on a three-pointer from Miller Kopp and an and-one layup from Jackson Davis. Johns responded with a dunk with 1:31 to go with the Wolverines leading 36-28.
A pair of Indiana free throws followed by another Michigan layup from Williams helped the Wolverines to a 38-30 lead heading into the locker room.

Second half
Indiana got the scoring going in the second half with a jumper from Johnson, which was immediately answered by one from Houstan. A pair of Jackson-Davis free throws was followed by an 8-0 Michigan run to stretch the lead to 48-34.
Houstan would add to the lead with a long-two to put Michigan up 52-36 at the 15:54 mark. The freshman was issued a technical foul for lobbying for it to be a three-pointer, which the official took issue with. The Hoosiers missed the technical free throw but put together a 7-0 run to narrow things at 52-43 with 14:09 to play.
Michigan’s stars continued to shine with every swing the Hoosiers took. Dickinson answered the run with a three-pointer at the 13:07 mark, while Houstan hit another at 10:54. Another from Dickinson with 9:29 to go gave Michigan a 61-47 lead. An Eli Brooks basket in the paint extended the lead to 16 points with under eight minutes to play.
Dickinson’s huge night continued over the next few minutes with a layup, dunk and pair of made free throws. Michigan’s lead stayed large at 69-54 with 5:21 to go. Jones’ layup at 4:23 was sandwiched by Indiana’s Parker Stewart hitting a pair of threes. The Wolverines went into the final media timeout with a 71-60 lead.
Michigan was able to coast the rest of the way with its double-digit lead, handing Indiana its first loss of the season at home.
