Michigan is off to a 7-10 start to the season. The Wolverines have a lot of new faces on the roster, but despite that and the disappointing first half of the season the coach says the locker room vibe remains positive.
“From what I’ve observed, just being with them at practice as well as traveling to and from road trips and having conversations with some of the guys, it seems to me that — and what I was told — our team is connected as it should be. Thank God for that,” Howard said. “Knowing that the connection with some of the … everyone is not happy with the start, because you have competitive guys and also prideful guys that want to be above .500 and one of the top teams in the Big Ten when it comes to the record, but I know that there’s a lot of season left. That’s where the positive mindset has been there for this group.

Added the Michigan coach: “It’s great to know that and hear that, because that will always be any coach’s concern when you don’t get off to the start that you wanted and then you also — some of the games that you lost have been some of the low scoring games, one or two possessions here and there, similar to last year — doubt can creep up in the mind. It’s just nice to see that we have a group that understands that there’s a lot of season to be played, and all we gotta do is continue to keep fighting.”
Howard also revealed that graduate forward Tray Jackson has a potentially broken nose and was in concussion protocol, and that he doesn’t expect him to play when Michigan faces Illinois Thursday.
