Wolverine TV podcast: Borton and Boesch discuss signs of life from Michigan basketball
TheWolverine.com’s John Borton is joined by Michigan basketball play-by-play voice Brian Boesch to talk about the team’s recent play and if it is sustainable heading into Indiana.
Michigan showed signs of life in a game last week at Illinois while shorthanded, but still lost. Tuesday night saw the team round into form in a blowout win over Maryland. But can they keep it going?
“That Illinois game showed that the buy-in is still there, and has been there throughout the entire season,” Boesch said to open this week’s episode. “This team has showed some warts and experienced some difficult times, but it would have been very easy for them to pack it in without Hunter Dickinson and a few other guys out. You had guys coming off health and safety protocols and this team was able to make it interesting. They challenged things for Illinois. Michigan was out-offensive rebounding them 8 to 4 at halftime without Hunter. That was a lot to like.
“This team did not look at that as a moral victory, but it was a potential setup for the stretch run. This ballclub on Tuesday against Maryland started to find that they could match that effort with good play and well-executed offense and defense, and be able to turn that into wins in this league. Maryland is by no means a contender, but it was good to see and it was a starting point. Now we wait and see if they can go out and build on it.”
