Wolverine TV podcast: Borton and Crawford discuss win over Michigan State
TheWolverine.com’s John Borton and Tom Crawford discuss Michigan’s win over Michigan State, Hunter Dickinson’s big night and the road ahead for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines were able to run MSU out of the building on Tuesday night by a score of 88-70. Crawford liked what he saw because of the backyard brawl nature of the rivalry.
“That was sweeter than the Purdue game,” Crawford said. “Michigan vs. Michigan State is personal. It is a personal rivalry. There were probably the most Spartan fans in the building since the Tommy Amacker era. At junctures in that game, I felt like I was in Indy in the Big Ten Tournament where you had a split crowd. Hunter Dickinson and the Wolverines, maybe that motivated them. But they took over and that was a huge, huge 40-minute win for the Wolerines over Michigan State.”
“Not as great a home setting as you might normally expect,” Borton said. “Spring break for Michigan and you’ve got COVID restrictions on what fans can attend, so you did have a pretty good influx of green and white in there. They made a lot of noise early, but got quieted down by Dickinson. 33 points, nine rebounds and a few words for the Michigan State bench along the way.”

“That was talked about a lot in the postgame presser,” Crawford replied. I felt that Hunter was playing Maryland again. I don’t know what happened in East Lansing, but he was doing the glare at the bench. Phil Martelli after the game said that is not his style. What worked with Hunter doing that was that he sent a message to his teammate. This was a special game and a needed game.”
