The Wolverines had to sweat it out a bit this weekend, but the selection committee ultimately decided their resume was strong enough to get in. It was a stressful few days, but the end result was what most Michigan fans had hoped for coming off the loss to Indiana.
“The Big Ten Tournament was outstanding outside of what happened to Michigan,” Sayfie said. “Hopefully some people were still able to watch that and enjoy it. Great basketball, but I was reading the rooting guide every morning and then watching these games. Basically, it seemed like 50 percent of those games didn’t go Michigan’s way. At the same time, there was a lot of panic on Friday night as there were upsets in some of the conference tournaments. I didn’t totally panic like the rest of the people.
“I think a lot of people forget that a team below you on the pecking order may win, but it does not automatically move them up. You have to re-evaluate the resumes. There were so many factors in this.”
