TheWolverine.com’s John Borton is joined by Michigan radio play-by-play voice Brian Boesch ahead of Thursday’s NCAA Tournament opener against Colorado State. The guys dive into the matchups, if Michigan can get hot and make a run and much more.

The best development of the selection was avoiding the First Four in Dayton. Michigan instead opens up the NCAA Tournament with a showdown against the Rams in Indianapolis, a location that they are plenty familiar with. It also provides an opportunity to put the Indiana game behind them in the same area – Gainbridge Fieldhouse – where they blew a big lead in the conference tournament.

“I felt the whole time that Michigan was in [the NCAA Tournament],” Boesch said. “I was very surprised that Michigan was not in Dayton. Don’t know how you digested all that was Selection Sunday, but when I saw that Richmond/Davidson game, I really thought that might be what sends us to Dayton. The reality is that Michigan was the last bye. Legitimately, a group of people advanced Michigan one round in the NCAA Tournament. The Wolverines should feel very grateful for that.

“They should use that as a second opportunity and second chance. When you consider the fact that it is one week [after the loss to Indiana], almost the exact same start time, the first game of the day in the same arena, there is a lot of symmetry there that Michigan gets a second chance at doing what they should have done in the Big Ten Tournament. They had Indiana dead to rights. It did not feel as close as 17-points. And then they completely fell apart.”
