ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan Wolverines basketball associate head coach Phil Martelli — who is filling in for the suspended Juwan Howard — sophomore center Hunter Dickinson, sophomore forward Terrance Williams II and freshman wing Caleb Houstan met with the media following the Maize and Blue’s 87-70 win over Michigan State Tuesday night at Crisler Center.

Martelli credited his players and said he knew they were dialed in from the moment he walked down the tunnel to the court for Michigan’s walkthrough at 4:30 ahead of the 8:30 p.m. ET tip. The Wolverines were led by their 2021 second-team All-American big man — Dickinson — who put up a career-high 33 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field and nine rebounds. They also got stellar play from Houstan, who scored 16 points and four rebounds and hit both of his three-point attempts.

Michigan will practice tomorrow and have a quick turnaround before Thursday’s home game against Iowa, which the Wolverines beat in Iowa City a couple weeks back. Thursday is also senior night, where Michigan will honor Adrien Nunez, Brandon Johns Jr. and fifth-year senior guard DeVante’ Jones. The Maize and Blue finish the regular season at Ohio State Sunday, before competing in the Big Ten Tournament. Michigan’s seed for the conference tournament is not decided yet, of course, but the most likely is that they’ll wind up as either a No. 7 or No. 8 seed, avoiding a Wednesday night game but not quite getting a double bye to the quarterfinals.
